An overheard snippet of conversation, earlier, contained the intriguing line "...and I was once propositioned by Michael Fish."
Which leads me to today's challenge: your best guesses for chat-up-lines used by weather forecasters, or relating to weather.
A few to get you started:
-- "I predict hot and steamy conditions in a localised area"
-- "I hear there's been some flooding down south"
In the comments, please...
Haven't been around here in a while (well, I've been reading, just not writing)
That's partly because it's gotten awfy commercial around here (hello Nokia! Metro! Havaianas! Bank of America!), the Yankeeism hasn't gone away and (mostly) because I'm now playing a lot more on my tumblr scrapbook and Twitter.
So, er, hello.
And, y'know, stuff.
Who's going to be in the Final Four?
Pestilence, slaughter, desolation and death, I thought. No?
On the other hand, if this is another american question, relating to another american event which is completely irrelevant to everyone else on the planet, and in vox, then my answer is: don't care.
Start menu? Pshaw. How very Windows of you. At home I'm an Apple person, but my work laptop's start menu is revealed above.
I think this screengrab is fairly revealing about what I do, a lot.
What's the most famous movie you've never seen?
Submitted by Mike.
I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to OH-MY-GOD-YOU-MUST-HAVE-SEEN-IT kind of movies. So, in no particular order:
- Raging Bull
- Taxi Driver
- The Godfather (any)
- Apocalypse Now
- Gone With The Wind
- Bambi
- Citizen Kane
- On the Waterfront
- A Clockwork Orange
- And probably loads of others you'll be boggled about. Sorry, I just don't have any interest in seeing them *shrug*
And I didn't see Dirty Dancing or ET until a couple of years ago. Didn't miss much, either.
You're trapped in a (temporarily) out of order elevator - who would you like to be trapped with?
Submitted by tbtissimus.
I was trapped the other day (albeit briefly) in an elevator (lift) with someone who smelt quite alarmingly of bacon.
So, not him, again.
Okay, we hate to ask, but... over the roll or under the roll?
Always, always, always over the roll.
Otherwise you're rubbing it against the wall.
How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?
Snapshot of Hogmanay on the Isle of Mull.
The scene: Meg and her mum are on the way back from a Gaelic event. Meg is driving. There is a force 10 gale blowing the car all over the road. They pass a holly wreath lying on the road.
Meg: Oh look, I think your holly wreath has blown off the door...
Mum: No, that's not mine - that one has flowers, and besides, mine was fixed on very firmly.
(ten metres later)
Meg (spotting another holly wreath bowling down the road): Oh right, well, there's yours now...
What were your top 5 TV shows of 2006?
Not sure this'll end up as 5, but here goes...
- House - I was a latecomer to this, but I've caught up and loved it this year.
- Grey's Anatomy - A little bit House, a little bit ER, a little bit Desperate Housewives and a teeny bit West Wing. Unexpectedly, I found myself enjoying this - very watchable, if total fluff.
- Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - It's still taking off, but it shows moments of promise. I don't want them to cancel it before it has a chance to get into its stride properly.
- West Wing (final series) - I think this counts as 2006, doesn't it? I don't know where this year's gone, really.
- Rome & Into the West - was Rome this year? In any case, both fine historical mini series which captured the imagination and attention for a few weeks in a row - and which revelled in lavish cinematography. Fluff. Pleasing fluff.
Bubbling under:
- Spooks - As ever, addictive viewing, though it's trashier than it used to be - I think possibly because I found it hard to care about any of the characters much.
- Arrested Development - I should watch this more.
- Weeds - Ditto.
- Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares - It's formulaic, but that doesn't stop it being worth watching while you're having your tea.
- Never Mind the BuzzcocksB - Simon Amstell definitely brought some sparkle back to the ailing format.
Don't care anymore awards to:
- Lost - Feh. Is this still going? I tried to care, but couldn't be arsed.
- Huff - I watched the first half of the first episode of the second series and didn't get any further. I think that's telling.
- ER - I just feel like I've seen every plot before. About a dozen times.
